Here's what we're looking for
Our legal team is looking for an experienced Legal Counsel to strengthen our expertise in the Canadian financial sector. Reporting to the VP Legal, you will be responsible for providing legal advice throughout the product lifecycle, managing licenses, and ensuring strict compliance with current regulations.
You will also guide teams on growth initiatives, aligning legal strategies with regulatory requirements and business objectives. This role requires a proactive individual who can quickly adapt in an environment where financial and regulatory issues are critical.
Your daily responsibilities
- Manage legal cases assigned by the VP Legal and provide operational support across the company;
- Advise internal teams on legal matters related to business operations and regulatory compliance, particularly concerning consumer credit products, ensuring adherence to laws and regulations. You may also be called upon to provide advice in other areas, such as employment law, privacy, and intellectual property;
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents (service agreements, partnerships, confidentiality agreements, internal documents, licenses, etc.), ensuring the company’s interests are protected;
- Support the implementation of internal policies related to data protection and compliance, ensuring they meet applicable legal requirements;
- Collaborate with other department members to anticipate and manage legal risks associated with BrainFinance's strategic initiatives;
- Provide legal advice on strategic initiatives, including new credit card products and other financial solutions;
- Work closely with product development and marketing teams to ensure new products and services comply with current regulations.
Your skills and experience
- Law degree and a member in good standing of a Canadian bar association;
- Over 3 years of experience in business law, commercial law, financial services, corporate advisory, or related fields;
- Proven experience in drafting and negotiating contracts;
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to manage cases and priorities independently;
- A keen interest in financial technologies and innovative products.
